Gliding is a very popular sport worldwide & is also used to introduce youngsters to initial flying, teaching them the very basic & essentials of flying.
In conventional gliding, the glider is towed by a winch to attain altitude from where it uses gravity to propel forward. However, the conventional glider has gradually given way to Motorgliders or being towed by another aircraft, thereby dispensing the need to use winches. A Motor Glider has an engine, which allows the glider to take off and climb on its own. Once at altitude, the engine is switched off and the machine is used as a glider.
